Revolutionary Girl Utena Episode 10: "Nanami's Precious Thing"

~story~

Is it really too much to ask for two good episodes in a row? This episode was just dull and boring. We learn about Nanami's past and how she is an animal killer (lol PETA's gonna be PISSED). She basically taped a cat into a box and threw it into a raging river and the tape failed and the box opened right as the box went over a huge waterfall with rapids and who knows what else at the bottom basically ending that poor kitten's life. And she did it because her brother liked the cat more than her. I like the dead ant I stepped on last week more than I like Nanami, so I can understand her brother's distaste for her. Touga somehow has the authority to make random people duelists and so he makes his sister a duelist and she fights Utena and Utena is victorious within like ten seconds (because Nanami hasn't dueled a day in her life so there really was no hope) but then Nanami goes crazy and pulls out all these random swords and tries to actually kill Utena. But Touga saves the day (yet again).

The spinning rose at the climatic point of the duel has returned. Dislike.

The insert songs made their reappearance and even though the duel was split by a scene of Nanami's past it was still necessary for the insert songs to play at both parts of the duel. That makes me so irritated. Also, the ending theme played twice. Why? Who knows? More questions yet to never be answered.

I try not to use vulgar language on this blog, but when there is an extreme situation it just can't be helped. That situation is now. Nanami is a bitch. Touga is a devious little liar that has played with everybody's minds. Utena is going emo. And Anthy is watching all of this go down. And Saionji has been expelled in the most pointless departure scene in the history of frever.

This episode receives a C. It was so dull and boring and nothing was answered, yet again. It appears that every episode with Nanami as a main focus tends to suck. Coincidence? I think not!

Revolutionary Girl Utena Episode 9: "The Castle Said to Hold Eternity"

Sorry for no posts the past couple of days!

I worked on Monday so no reviews could be done

And yesterday was a computer nightmare so nothing could be done

But we're back today and hopefully we'll get one or two more up for your enjoyment ^^

Young Touga and Young Saionji

~story~

Wow. This episode is definitely something different that we haven't seen from the series so far. This has probably got to be the most serious and dramatic episode so far. Yet, it also is so confusing. We learn that Touga is the prince that saved Utena when she was a child (even though in the previous episodes it was thought to be believed that the prince looked similar to Anthy). Saionji was also there but Utena either didn't see him or Touga did the prince-y things while Saionji wasn't there or something. This episode we learn how Utena, Touga, and Saionji's pasts all connect together. Touga and Saionji found (and Touga saved) Utena at her parent's funeral when she was just a child. For some reason, there were three coffins ready at the funeral so was Utena supposed to die in the accident with her parents? Hmm... Another question added to our list of questions yet to be answered. Saionji then gets a letter saying to take Anthy to the arena (which is forbidden) and Utena gets a call saying that Anthy was kidnapped and she gets to the arena gate and sees Saionji drowning and she saves him and Anthy is nowhere to be found and she's panicking that Anthy has been kidnapped and Saionji is like "OMG SHE'S BEEN KIDNAPPED?!?! WE HAVE TO SAVE HER!!!" even though he was the one who kidnapped her in the first place. Then they get up to the arena and all the crazy begins.Anthy is in this coffin or something and then these things start flying up out of the ground and the castle starts falling from the sky and then Utena flies and saves Anthy even though Saionji was supposed to and then the castle crashes onto Saionji and then all of a sudden everything is back to normal and everything is fine and Utena is crying over Anthy who wakes up just in time to see Saionji about to kill Utena but Touga jumps in the way to be the prince that saved Utena again and she realizes that Touga is the prince and then we learn that Touga sent the letter to Saionji in the first place and it's all just a huge fricking mess and my head hurts.

Instead of getting the spinning rose at the climatic point of the battle, we get the rose border which is an improvement but still we could do without. The art was also attempting to give a dramatic feeling this episode with red effects and different artistic techniques but it just wasn't working unfortunately. Also, the scene when the castle was falling the screen was shaking a lot and it was giving me a major headache.

There were no insert songs this episode even though they were in the arena. Maybe it was because it wasn't technically a duel?

Saionji kidnaps Anthy.

~character~

We learn that Saionji has this huge jealous obsession with Touga (just like Nanami). I don't know why anybody would be jealous of Touga. He's a jerk. Saionji is now getting expelled from the school because he sliced Touga's back open with a sword (which is frowned upon in most middle schools). Touga is revealed to be the prince that saved Utena when she was just a child. We learn that Touga doesn't really believe in friendships and that he is even more of a jerk than anybody ever realized. Anthy is causing more problems for everybody and Utena is still just like "what".

~overall~

This episode receives a B. While it was very interesting and great story development took place, it hasn't answered any questions. Instead, it's added more questions and it's making my brain hurt.

Revolutionary Girl Utena Episode 8: Curried High Trip

So this episode is a filler

100% filler

And it wasn't watched that heavily

Cause I was panicking cause my earring was freaking out

And Swiko was freaking out over people splitting their tongues

So this review will be short

But it was going to be short anyways because it's a filler

Another episode where they were trying to be funny, but it just wasn't. Saionji's scenes were hilarious but Nanami getting chased by elephants in India just wasn't. No. The plot for this filler was that Utena and Anthy's personalities switched roles and they needed something from India to switch it back. It was pretty dumb but whatever.

Nanami is told to go get the special spice so that she can fix the problem she created.

This episode receives a B. While it isn't the worst episode, it still managed to be kinda interesting and Saionji's scenes were just hilarious.
