Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica Episode 10: "I Can't Depend on Anyone Anymore"

Homura introducing herself to the class.

O_O
I can't.... even...
Omg

Homura is saved by Madoka and Mami.

~story~

My mind is beyond blown right now. I can't even put into words how fantastic of an episode this was. It was 20 minutes of Homura's past. Right from the first second we see Homura introducing herself to the class. She's this nerdy social reject that can't do anything right and yeah. She finds herself about to be eaten when Madoka (AS A MAGICAL GIRL OMGOMGOMG FINALLY!! AND SHE'S A GREAT ONE!!) and Mami (MAMI LIVESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS) coming to save her. She hangs with them and then they both die fighting the Warpugis Night and Homura makes the fatal decision to become a Magical Girl (OMG I'm getting chills just recapping this). Her wish was to re-do her meeting with Madoka since Madoka was like her first friend and had basically just died in front of her. Kyuube then grants Homura the gift of time traveling. Homura returns back to day one of school and relives her life as a magical girl. Mami, Kyoko, Sayaka, Madoka, and Homura all go on fighting witches and things happen and they eventually lead up to the death of them again at Warburgis Night. Now they're back to day one of school. Homura is in this endless time-warp. She relives everything to the point where Madoka's dying wish this time is for Homura to return to the past and not let Madoka become a magical girl and for her to do whatever it takes to prevent this from repeating any longer. Homura does this and returns to basically episode one of the series. And that's where we are today. We now fully understand how Homura knew everything (such as when and where Warpugis Night was going to appear) and why she was so dead-set on making sure that Madoka did not make that contract with Kyuube and how she knew everything about Kyuube's deception and lies before everyone. And we also know why she was so devastated at the end of last episode when Kyuube said that there would be no choice but to have Madoka become a magical girl because she knew that she had failed again and that she was going to have to relive the past once again and go through the same crap with everybody one more time.

Homura cries over Madoka's death.

Fantastic.

Mami kills Kyoko and prepares to kill Homura after finding out they were deceived by Kyuube.

~sound~

There was no opening theme. Instead the opening theme and animation played where the ending theme was. The lyrics to the opening song finally make perfect sense and fit this series perfectly. I love the opening theme so much more now.

Madoka saves Homura and asks her to "save her from her own stupidity" by repeating history again.

~character~

Seeing how Homura started off as this shy nerdy social-reject and from reliving the same live over and over again has changed her into this cold strong-willed girl is just so eye-opening about how certain events can truly change a person. Homura deserves an award for best best friend ever due to her putting up with Madoka's crap these past nine episodes while she couldn't say or do anything about it. It's just so sad.

Homura time-traveling.

~overall~

This episode receives an A+. Here on this blog it isn't that hard to receive an A- or even an A but to receive an A+ it has to be a damn good episode and by golly this episode was it. When the opening theme played at the end I seriously thought that it as the halfway point and that there was more to come. Nope. That's how smoothly and fast everything went while making EVERYTHING clear and nothing left uncertain. So many great scenes such as Madoka making Homura promise not to let her make the same mistakes again in the next timeline and the scene when Mami kills Kyoku and then Madoka kills Mami for killing Kyoku and trying to save Homura from being killed by Mami was just... OH. You can NOT miss this episode.
